Frequently Asked Questions
What is your new patient procedure?
Via phone, our patient's provide a minimal amount of personal information (name, mobile phone #, date of birth, and email), which we enter into our electronic medical record and then create a portal that patients can access through their own mobile phone to provide the rest of their demographic information. It is always advisable to arrive to the office 15 minutes early. If you completed the form provided through the "On-patient" portal, then its a great time to have some tea and chat, otherwise, the time is necessary to confirm all of the check-in demographics.
Patients are brought into a treatment room where they will meet with the physician who will listen to your story, perform a physical examination, and determine the best course of action. The goal on that initial visit is to perform osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), develop a therapeutic exercise prescription, and possibly perform acupuncture or acupressure.
I don’t have my insurance card with me, can I still receive treatment?
Ideally, you will have already entered your insurance information, including providing a picture of your card, through our online patient portal (see previous FAQ on "New Patient Procedure").
If we are participating with your insurance company, then you will be expected to pay your copayment at the time of service. Many insurance companies actually require payment of the copay at the time of service. With some insurance companies the copayment varies and this requires us to submit the Superbill to the insurance company first. We can let you know at the time of your office visit.
If we are not participating with your insurance company, then you will be expected to arrange payment at the time of service.
What is an osteopathic treatment like?
Osteopathic treatments, aka OMT, at the Danto Osteopathic Clinic are tailored to each individual patient. Expect gentle hands-on treatment. Dr. Danto demonstrates some of the treatments he performs in practice on our OMT page. The treatments demonstrated are a bit unique to the patient and OMT utilized does vary from visit to visit and person to person. The physical exam is a non-verbal communication with a person's body in which Dr. Danto will be listening to the clues your body expresses to guide him towards which treatment may result in the most therapeutic response from your body. The response of your body is also a guide as to how to proceed in the treatment or when to conclude a treatment. The goal is for your body to express a harmonic normalization of the muscles, joints, nerves and other structures within it.
How many treatments will I need?
It would be great if everyone who walked or limped into the Danto Osteopathic Clinic was all better by the time they left the office. The "one and done" concept is the perfect scenario and has helped to perpetuate the myth that Dr. Danto is a "miracle worker." Truthfully, Dr. Danto has learned patience from his patients. You being "all better" is what inspires Dr. Danto to practice Osteopathic Manipulation. However, most often, people require at least 4 treatments as well as some healthy lifestyle modifications.
The number and strength of the OMT provided is often determined by the current health status of the person undergoing treatment. Someone who is very vigorous and healthy may only need 1 treatment, but the very young and the very old often need more than one treatment at a lower dose. Additionally, the severity of a person's problems acts as a rate limiting factor determining the "strength" of a treatment.
